Depiste its atmosphere of timeless tranquillity, Cephallonia is no stranger to the ravages of invasion and war. When the Axis powers occupy the beautiful Greek island in 1941, its inhabitants treat the newcomers with the same quiet resistance and comtempt as their many predecessors.
A young Italian officer Captain Corelli, is billetted with Dr Ianis and his spirited daugher, Pelagia and proves to be not only a superb musician but also a truly remarkable man. In spite of their initial hostility the villagers, and especially Pelagia, begin to realise that not only the war, but the small miracle which is Corelli will change their lives uterly.
A tale of love and war which captures a mixture of humour, evil and optimism.
